About the Creative and Cultural Events Incubator

The Creative and Cultural Events Incubator is to support new or developing events that align with the Statement of Investment Priority toward becoming internationally significant or financially self-sustaining.

Historically, creative and cultural events have been underrepresented in the Major Events Fund portfolio. Unlike sports events, global exemplars of major creative and cultural events are generally home-grown.

This different path to becoming internationally significant means that, to develop major creative and cultural events for New Zealand, there is a need to support their early development and growth. For this reason, the Creative and Cultural Events Incubator has been developed.

New Zealand Major Events aims to build internationally significant, financially sustainable creative and cultural events for New Zealand through the Incubator.

The purpose of the Incubator is to:

  • Provide seed funding in support of new creative and cultural events that meet the Statement of Investment Priority; to develop financially self-sustaining events, and nurture their potential to become major events of international significance.
  • Provide development funding in support of existing creative and cultural events that meet the Statement of Investment Priority; to tackle matters that inhibit financial sustainability, and to nurture their ability to become major events of international significance.
  • Support a step-change towards becoming a financially self-sustaining event of international significance.

Events that apply to the Creative and Cultural Events Incubator must meet the Statement of Investment Priority to be eligible for the fund.
