The Criteria
Driving the criteria for funding support decisions is the Government's Major Events Strategy. The strategy provides a plan to support the government's involvement in events. It aims to improve coordination across the agencies actively supporting events and ensure events generate an appropriate return on investment for the funding provided.
The criteria are:
- direct benefits from events
- legacy benefits from events
- event capability benefits
Direct benefits from events
The extent to which government funding for events will contribute to achieving benefits for New Zealand's economy, culture and society, including (but not limited to):
- increasing tourism revenue
- creation of employment related to the event itself and beyond
- international exposure for New Zealand
- opportunities for New Zealanders to experience world class events
- enabling communities to showcase their regions and achievements nationally and internationally
Legacy benefits from events
The extent to which government funding for events will contribute to achieving enduring benefits for New Zealand's economy, culture and society, including (but not limited to):
- development of ongoing business or industry growth opportunities, and creation of longer term employment
- development of local, regional or national infrastructure and fiacilities
- fostering key international relationships
- growth in participation and high achievement in the field to which the event relates
Event capability benefits
The extent to which government funding for events will contribute to building capacity in New Zealand's event sector, including (but not limited to):
- building event organisation skills
- extending or impriving systems and knowledge relating to event delivery
- incresing the available pool of trained volunteers
- enhancing New Zealand's reputation as an events host
