Is My Event Eligible for Funding?

To be eligible for support funds from the Major Events Development Fund, events must meet criteria set out on the Major Events National Strategy.

Briefly, the strategy provides for funding support to events that are of national significance, that build economic wealth and social connections, and that result in international media exposure in key international markets.

Who Can Apply?

Anyone organising a major event can apply for support from New Zealand Major Events. However, support funding can only be paid to a GST registered business entity. This includes companies, trusts and incorporated societies. Stage One applications must be submitted at least 12 months before the event takes place.  This is to allow for the process, funding agreement and leverage and legacy planning to be completed in time for the event.

The CAP Programme has been designed to assist with such services as:

  • Providing the services of an experienced Professional Conference Organiser to undertake an initial financial feasibility of the conference.
  • Production of customised bid documents.
  • Assistance with strategic marketing designed to enhance the chances of winning the conference.
  • Assistance with air travel to present the bid.
