What Is the Fund?
The Major Events Development Fund provides government funding to add value to major events that bring significant benefit to New Zealand. The Fund is designed to create additional opportunities for the event to increase economic, social and cultural, and international exposure benefits for New Zealand.
The Fund has a resource allocation of $4 million for 2009/10 to
- keep sustainable events here
- grow new and existing events
- attract new major events to New Zealand
Supporting Events and Bids
Through the Fund, the Government provides support to those events contributing most to New Zealand's development, according to a clearly defined set of criteria. The Major Events Development Fund also supports bids to win or secure the hosting rights of major international events here in New Zealand.
