Social & Cultural Criteria

To show your event will develop or promote high achievement for New Zealanders in the arts, cultural, heritage, sporting and leisure fields, your funding application needs to demonstrate that your event will:

  • provide an attainable target or benchmark of excellence that otherwise would not have been possible here in New Zealand 
  • present New Zealand – its culture and heritage – as a unique and creative nation
  • celebrate New Zealand’s wide range of cultures, especially Maori and Pacific cultures.

To show your event will provide opportunities for New Zealanders to experience world-class events, you need to demonstrate:

  • what you expect the level and quality of New Zealand participation to be
  • what you expect the level of interest and support from New Zealand spectators and audiences to be.

To show your event will enable communities to showcase their regions and achievements nationally and internationally, your funding application needs to demonstrate that you will:

  • involve local authorities, and tourism promotion and economic development agencies in hosting the event, and other community and regional organisations in staging the event
  • include a programme of activities that encourages participation in a local experience or that showcases local achievements.
