Workforce and volunteers

A comprehensive workforce and volunteer programme is essential to running any major event. It will help to ensure an event meets world-class standards, and provides visitors and participants with lasting memories of both the event and New Zealand.

The importance of volunteers cannot be underestimated, it should be noted that most, if not all, major events will have considerably more volunteers than paid staff.

 

The event team

Both paid staff and volunteers must:

  • be enthusiastic and excited about the event
  • be thoroughly trained
  • have a clear understanding of the event
  • understand its philosophy, aims and objectives
  • be clear about communication and reporting lines.

It is only when these elements are in place that the event's team will work as a cohesive unit.
