Stage two application

This is the second stage in the MEDF investment process.

Stage two applications are by invitation only and are based on a successful EOI. Please note that an invitation to submit a stage two application does not guarantee MEDF investment approval.

At this stage, applicants are asked to provide supporting data or documentation to verify the information provided in their EOIs. Other documentation may also be requested to support their application.

This may include the following:

  • A comprehensive business plan
  • A event budget that details revenue and expenditure forecasts
  • A marketing and promotional plan
  • Market segmentation and sizing analysis
    • This should include information about the event audience, and how that audience will be comprised. For example, the event was run in 2015 and it attracted 200,000 attendees of which 15% were international.
  • Full details of the event’s governance and delivery models
  • Copies of any international hosting agreements (if applicable)
  • All financial statements (audited if possible)
  • A risk management plan
  • Event underwriter information
  • Endorsements from relevant national bodies, stakeholders, local authorities and/or associated organisations
  • A financial sustainability plan (for recurring events only)
  • Any other requirements as requested

Applications are assessed by Advisors in the Major Events team using information and data provided in the documents listed above. Assessments consider aspects including how well the event meets the MEDF criteria, the national benefits (using a cost-benefit analysis ) and leverage and legacy opportunities. As the MEDF is a contestable fund, assessments also consider how the event performs against other applications in the round.

If you would like more information or have any questions, please feel free to contact the Major Events Team on 04 474 2641 or majorevents@mbie.govt.nz.
