Investment Process

Expression of interest (EOI) stage

If you would like your event to be considered for MEDF investment, you will first need to complete an EOI form.

The EOI provides enough information for agencies to consider whether the event has the potential to assist them with their own objectives.

EOIs are accepted throughout the year and are assessed by Advisors in the Major Events team. The final decision as to whether it progresses to stage two is made by the Major Events Investment Panel .

If you’ve read over the MEDF investment criteria and believe your event meets it, please get in touch with one of the members of the Major Events Team. They will provide you with more information about the process.

Please also review the following conditions before submitting your EOI:

  • Applicant is a legal entity (registered company, trust, non-profit, etc.);
  • Event has support of the local authority and national organisation;
  • Please note that all information and data provided in the EOI will need to be substantiated if your EOI is accepted to stage two.

It is recommended that an application for investment is made at least two years in advance of the event. This is to ensure enough time for the decision making process, and to allow successful applicants sufficient time to develop a robust leverage and legacy programme around the event in consultation with government.

You can contact the Major Events Team on 04 474 2641 or majorevents@mbie.govt.nz, if you would like an EOI form or have any other questions.
