Application dates

Important information

Please note that the Major Events Development Fund is fully subscribed for the 2016/17 financial year (1 July 2016 – 30 June 2017). Therefore, New Zealand Major Events is not accepting applications that require investment in the 2016/17 year.

Applications seeking investment for future years will continue to be accepted in the application rounds as advertised on this website.

Application deadlines - 2017

The applications dates and estimated dates of notification for Round One 2017 are listed below.

Closing date – Stage One Applications

Application closing dates are likely change from year to year, taking into account availability of the Ministers Group and the Investment Panel. In most cases, Major Events will publically notify application closing dates five months in advance of the first funding round.

Application stages

Stage One

Applicants complete and submit a Stage One Application Form. If successful, they are invited to submit another, more detailed application for Stage Two.


Stage Two

Invited applicants are advised of the Stage Two application requirements which include the presentation of:

  • A comprehensive business plan

  • A detailed event budget

  • Market segmentation and sizing analysis

  • A marketing and promotional plan

  • Full details of the event’s governance and delivery models

  • Copies of any international hosting agreements

  • All financial statements (audited if possible)

  • A risk management plan

  • Event underwriter information

  • Endorsements from relevant national bodies, stakeholders, local authorities and associated organisations

  • A financial sustainability plan (for recurring events only)

  • Any other requirements as requested.
